Short Description:
Every day, millions of consumers share their experiences, perceptions, opinions, and actions from the comfort of their couch. These conversations are happening in real-time on social media channels, blogs, forums and in news site commentary. When in-person research methods aren’t possible…and even once they are again…one way to get an immediate baseline read on consumer wants, needs, sentiment, emotion, timing and influence on a research topic is through social conversation analysis. In this module, the presenters will share why social media conversation analysis is important to researchers, what information is available (teaser: it's not just social media channels!), how to talk about it with clients, and what it takes to get started.

Research studies can thrive or die by the strength of the screener. Structuring screeners is foundational to ensuring that your participants are not only best suited for a study but can also offer a wide range of relevant perspectives. Writing and executing more inclusive screeners can help set up even better conversations. Join other insights practitioners to hear what this means, why this matters and how you can apply it to your next study from Recruit and Field’s Senior Director of Client Services’ Kristin Ameruoso.

Do you hesitate to take on some B2B projects because you fear it will be impossible to find enough participants that meet your stakeholder’s very narrow criteria? You know the drill, “we want to talk to architects who use fire-retardant coatings for steel beams…. In municipal buildings.” Does your study require finding a super niche audience that isn’t readily available from your preferred B2B qualitative sample providers? Fear no more. We have invited some experts at sleuthing out these “unicorns” to join us in a panel discussion of just how they work their magic. From recruiting standard industry executives to uncovering the super niche audiences as well as options for DIY-ing it…we plan to cover it all!

The Emeritus SIG is thrilled to propose a panel presentation and discussion for the Virtual track of the annual QRCA Conference.  Our diverse panel of five is comprised of long-standing legacy members of QRCA and perhaps lesser-known qualitative experts. Panelists are: Jim Bryson, Ellen Good, JR Harris, Judy Langer, and Bonnie Perry. They embody a range of exciting and diverse paths: wilderness trekker/ author/speaker, health and life insurance broker/educator, an adjunct professor at Wharton, a docent with the Holocaust Museum Houston, the Executive Director of the Center for Learning and Living, the Tennessee Deputy Commissioner of the Bureau of Parks & Conservation. Each panelist has a unique story to tell of how they used skills cultivated during their career as a QRC, their personal vision and fortitude to create satisfying new endeavors with or without remuneration. Their journeys have not been seamless; there have been challenges, learning and re-directs along the way.

Short Description:
Qualitative researchers are a powerhouse of knowledge and perspectives. Imagine what we could accomplish if we put our heads together to face the next move forward in the social justice movement! How might we better pitch inclusive research? How might we pull from our collective knowledge and wisdom to elevate the conversation and activate change? In this highly interactive, facilitated session we will tap into the diversity of our collective thought to ideate on ways qualitative researchers can continue to act. We will introduce the virtual “room” to trusted facilitation tools (micro structures) that allow all stories to emerge in a respectful, open, conversational way, using human centered design principles applied in design thinking and education to gather new ideas and data.
