Short Description:
If you’re looking to squeeze everything you can from respondents in an in-person qualitative research session – especially innovation-focused work – consider the rev up. Yes, we’re talking pre-work or “homework”. Before they even walk into their research session, consumers are our eyes, ears, and pioneers – and they have ideas of their own. While respondents are in their element, in the wild, let’s leverage that opportunity for an output that is powerful and resonant. No more humdrum homework – it’s time to up the ante and give consumers a seat on the innovation team like they’ve never had before. In “The Art of the Tease”, attendees will reimagine homework assignments as a way to pull out respondents’ sharpest thinking in-sessions and add an entirely new dimension to the creative process.

This roundtable will facilitate a discussion about the power of empathy. Empathy is a catalyst that gives way to inspired thinking and purposeful action in the often ""chaotic"" creative process. We will talk about how leading our clients and ourselves with empathy takes not only curiosity but courage and vulnerability. Along with how this "soft" skill can create powerful shifts in our lives and businesses.

Short Description:
What if we turned the tables on traditional research? What if we let the respondents in on the fact that we are doing research while keeping that fact from everyone else participating in a real life experience? It’s a bit like having the subject of a picture in fine resolutions and the background being very faded out. But we are studying the impact of the background on the foreground. So we don’t wash out the background, we are focusing on it at the same time. I’ve used these techniques for years and they are particularly entertaining for me. And valuable for my clients. I’ll share examples from a study in the restaurant industry and in retail.

Short Description:
Most market researchers play an important role in one or two phases of the innovation process, but they rarely get to experience all phases. This session will feature a case study highlighting how our team implemented the complete Human-Centered Design (HCD) process – virtually. We harnessed HCD methodologies and digital tools to collaborate online and interview a range of experts and consumers, all with no budget. By leveraging tools such as MURAL, Slack, Google Forms, Zoom, and Otter.ai we successfully conducted research, synthesized learnings, brainstormed ideas, developed solutions, and identified potential partners for implementation. You’ll see how a team of four women with varied experience used diversity of thought to approach the important issue of harassment and discrimination in a new way.
