Short Description:
This roundtable will facilitate a discussion about the power of empathy. Empathy is a catalyst that gives way to inspired thinking and purposeful action in the often ""chaotic"" creative process. We will talk about how leading our clients and ourselves with empathy takes not only curiosity but courage and vulnerability. Along with how this "soft" skill can create powerful shifts in our lives and businesses.

Short Description:
What if we turned the tables on traditional research? What if we let the respondents in on the fact that we are doing research while keeping that fact from everyone else participating in a real life experience? It’s a bit like having the subject of a picture in fine resolutions and the background being very faded out. But we are studying the impact of the background on the foreground. So we don’t wash out the background, we are focusing on it at the same time. I’ve used these techniques for years and they are particularly entertaining for me. And valuable for my clients. I’ll share examples from a study in the restaurant industry and in retail.

Heard about Card Sorting and Tree Testing but not sure where to start? Ready for a brief immersion in these techniques? This session explores the who, what, when, where and how of Card Sorting and Tree Testing. Great for novices and for intermediate practitioners looking to refine this skillset. Usually a 3-hour interactive workshop, Danielle will condense her share out into a 1-hour pithy session on the principles of these two methods, and allow time for some Q&A.

Short Description:
Most market researchers play an important role in one or two phases of the innovation process, but they rarely get to experience all phases. This session will feature a case study highlighting how our team implemented the complete Human-Centered Design (HCD) process – virtually. We harnessed HCD methodologies and digital tools to collaborate online and interview a range of experts and consumers, all with no budget. By leveraging tools such as MURAL, Slack, Google Forms, Zoom, and Otter.ai we successfully conducted research, synthesized learnings, brainstormed ideas, developed solutions, and identified potential partners for implementation. You’ll see how a team of four women with varied experience used diversity of thought to approach the important issue of harassment and discrimination in a new way.

Short Description:
How can a brand gain greater access to their consumers and achieve front-row seats into their lives? Imagine an opportunity to wake up with the consumer and be part of their day from the moment they rise until they go to bed; a way to experience in real-time the influences and circumstances that shape consumer decision-making at every touchpoint during the day. WhatsApp has become a preferred form of communication in emerging markets. It is familiar, easily affordable, and accessible (compared to other research platforms). This presentation will demonstrate how one can use WhatsApp as a multidimensional but non-intrusive lens into consumer lives through the use of text, audio, and video connections. The methodology can be leveraged as a continuous ethnography throughout the day. It can give us access to every step in their experience and moments of influence.

Animals have some incredible skills (e.g., crafty as a fox, or as nimble as a gazelle), but all lack the ability to smile or do critical thinking — and all the Artificial Intelligence in the world will never allow a computer to get the full humor in a joke. As QRCs, we use our craft and agility to navigate the world of qualitative research and to smile (or grimace) at some of the insights we gather. Come to the closing keynote and see if your list of conference takeaways matches Naomi's, and be ready to laugh!
