Tom Richardson, PhD, MBA, PA-C, brings a unique background in clinical medicine, research and business strategy to his work as a medical moderator and researcher. He has vast experience moderating/facilitating telephone, in-person in-depth interviews, focus groups and medical advisory boards. He specializes in conducting interviews in clinically rich topics and those informing business strategy.


Tom brings experience moderating for oncology studies covering solid tumor and hematologic cancers, IV and oral chemo and novel agents. Cancers include prostate, bladder, breast, brain, lung, melanoma, liver, bone, and CLL. Respondent types have included medical and surgical oncologists, hematologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, patients, caregivers, Nurses, MCOs, PBMs and Pharmacy directors.


Topics researched have included generating insights into clinical trial recruitment/feasibility, research design and clinical end-points, patient journey, treatment decision making, role of support groups and social media, companion diagnostic tests, drug distribution, PBMs, packaging, and pricing and reimbursement aspects including the role or alternative payment models, GPOs, and 340B pricing. He has also conducted numerous studies on diagnostic medical imaging modalities, including the use of CT, MRI, US, and PET scan in the diagnosis and surveillance of oncology disorders.


Specifically related to prostate cancer, Tom has interviewed patients and caregivers/partners regarding treatment decision making as well as to assess message testing for a new treatment. He has interviewed urologists and oncologists regarding decision making and treatment use for hormone sensitive (mHSPC) and castration resistant (mCRPC) prostate cancer, and radiologists regarding prostate cancer medical imaging.


Tom has been a Physician Assistant (PA) since 1994, received his MBA from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and earned his PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Rochester (UR) School of Medicine and Dentistry. As a PA, Tom worked in inpatient hospital medicine, emergency medicine, family practice and cardiology. Tom was a professor at RIT and UR where he thought and conducted clinical, epidemiologic and health services research. He has served on the Boards of Hospital/Health System, Skilled Nursing Facility and a Regional Home Care Agency. He has spoken at numerous national conferences and given quarterly webinars on topics related to healthcare reform over the past several years.
