What is Unique About Stakeholders in a UX Project and How to Work and Communicate with Them


In many ways, the project stakeholders are what distinguishes UX from other types of research (such as market research). This presentation outlines the diverse cast of stakeholder characters for a typical User Experience Research project focusing on their unique perspectives, goals and needs. Often, UX stakeholders expect to be involved in all aspects of project planning and execution. Tech executives want an encapsulation of the usability problems as well as solutions that demonstrate your understanding of the underlying technology and its implications. Product Managers seek insights on customer segmentation, participant reaction to feature sets, feedback on the concept, competitive information, and insights they can use to adjust the product roadmap. Product Designers need granular usability feedback to guide refinements to the product’s interface and behavior as well as an understanding of how well the interactive product fits into the end user’s world and task flow. Engineering needs to understand (and agree with) the usability bugs so they can develop solutions that work with the technology.
